QuAntü Takes Part in the International Seminar on Quantum Technologies for Natural Resource Modeling at UCN
The “International Seminar on Quantum Technologies for Natural Resource Modeling” marked the official launch at Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN) of FONDEF project IT 24I0030, “Intelligent Platform for Environmental Management and Soil Monitoring in the Antofagasta Region Using AI-Based Baseline Modeling.” The initiative aims to develop advanced technological solutions for environmental management in mining and land-use contexts across the region. The project is led by Dr. Elizabeth Lam Esquenazi, a full professor at UCN and a specialist in the management and control of mining waste and tailings. She highlighted that the initiative seeks to integrate artificial intelligence and baseline modeling to support decision-making in environmental management and soil monitoring in one of Chile’s most important mining regions. “This project addresses a critical issue for the Antofagasta region: the need to establish a geochemical baseline that allows us to distinguish between naturally occurring metal concentrations in our soils and those resulting from human activities, particularly mining,” she emphasized. The event also featured presentations on significant advances in applied quantum technologies, including a talk by Dr. Ariel Norambuena, a faculty member at Federico Santa María Technical University. His presentation, “QuAntü: Neutral Atom–Based Quantum Computing from Chile,” highlighted the development and future prospects of this strategic field in Chile.
